Q: Magic Keyboard

I have a Magic Keyboard & Mouse which, I hasten to say, seem to work fine and the charges lasts a refreshingly long time.

Cutting a long story short, I discovered the charge indicator, located in System Preferences related pop up, had not changed in spite of having charged over night. At first I thought the charger was faulty, so I plugged it into a USB on the computer to see if it would charge from there and the indicator immediately changed to 100%

My question is; Is this normal ?

One would have thought this would have been communicated via the "Bluetooth" connection while in use otherwise it severely restricts the function of the charge level indication and , in fact, causes it to mislead the user.

    Hello there, 2Skip2.

    It sounds like you are trying to verify battery status and charge indicator is reflecting the correct information on your iMac. The following Knowledge Base article offers some great recommendations:

    If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad aren‘t working as expected

    Make sure your devices are charged

    Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad 2 have built-in rechargeable batteries. You can charge these devices by connecting them to a Mac or a USB power adapter using a Lightning to USB Cable. For the fastest battery charging performance, be sure your device is switched on when connected to the Lightning to USB Cable.

    To check the battery level of these devices, click the Bluetooth icon in your Mac's menu bar, then select your device by name. If the battery level of any device is low, recharge the device. If the device isn’t showing, make sure the device is turned using the steps outlined above.

    {...}

    If issues persist, try starting up your Mac in single-user mode to see whether a software issue is causing the issue.

    Thanks Pedro d

    You may have solved 2 oddities for me.  I'll check it out'

    1)  Checking battery status via the Bluetooth icon. Same drop-down though.

    2)  Although they do say switch the device "on" when charging. I should say they do recharge even with the switch "off".

    It seems though, from the standard Apple charger plugged into a standard wall socket, switch "on" or "off", They only seem to charge to 97% however long they are left.   They will reach 100% if charged from a computer USB.  Is it possible that there are differences in Voltages causing this ???

    The precise charge indicated is not particularly important, at least not for 3 percentage points.   However, in the dashbooard there are widgets available that could offer you an alternate check and best of all is an app ... iStat Pro (small charge) which monitors that and other aspects of your machine.
