Q: Network Problem El Capitan

I have an macbook pro and after an update the network isn't working.

After a lot of searching on the web I found out that it was Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data: ver. 3.28.1 that caused the problem but I have tried everything that support suggests and reinstalled El Capitan but problem remains.

As you can see I have the following

Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data:

  Version: 3.30.1

  Kilde: Apple

  Installeringsdato: 11/04/2016 11.11

If I start in secure mode WiFi/Ethernet works - and then when i restart the Mac it works to - but is there anything I can do, so that WiFi/Ethernet work without the secure mode boot first.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Hello everyone,

I started this morning my iMac and I am having the same issue that budolfsen was having.

I have uninstalled the avast antivirus I had but the problem remains.

My version of the Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data: is also 3.30.1

Can you tell me what can I do to solve this?

That version is up to date.

You may have other stuff installed that is interfering with your connection.

I suggest you run Etrecheck and post its report.

    I solved the problem by

    1. uninstall every 3rd party software like virusprogram that might interfere.

    2. used the EtreCheck to find which program had a kernel running - which was uninstalled

    3. Used find all files to find the files that EtreCheck had found.

That way I could clean everything from within libraries so the wouldn't run anymore.

after all this everything works fine.

    Hope this helps

Your system and 's are not very similar.

    The only strange things is:

            /Library/Extensions

        [loaded]    com.intel.kext.intelhaxm (6.0.1 - SDK 10.9 - 2016-04-06) [Support]

        [loaded]    com.intel.haxm.plist (2015-11-16) [Support]

Do you know why you have this kernel extension installed?

        [loaded]    com.bittorrent.uTorrent.plist (2016-02-22) [Support]

You are running a bit torrent client.  While this does not block network access, it can eat into your network bandwidth.

            56%    mdworker(11)

        188 MB    mdworker(11)

        115 MB    mds_stores

Spotlight seems to be very active.  Are you doing something that is constantly modifying files on your disk, such as importing lots of stuff via the bit torrent client?

If there is no real disk activity then maybe you should re-index Spotlight

<Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple Support>

I do not really see anything that screams network interference, and I'll even assume the bit torrent client is not at fault (but do not count it out until you turn it off, as an experiment, to see if things get better).

Have you tried booting into "Safe" mode to see if you still have network problems

    Hello BobHarris,

Do you know why you have this kernel extension installed?

I have installed Android Studio and this is used in the emulator. I don't think it is necessary. How do I remove those entries?

I have already uninstalled uTorrent but it did not work.

Earlier today, I tried entering in Safe mode but the issue remained.

Earlier today, I tried entering in Safe mode but the issue remained.

That says it is NOT the current set of 3rd party additions on your system, as Safe mode does not load them.

You need to start looking at other things, such as your network.

You might start by power cycling your router.

You might try using a different DNS server

    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> [+]

and try entering one of the following DNS addresses

    OpenDNS.org

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

    Google DNS

    8.8.8.8

    8.8.4.4

If you wish you can remove them later using the [-] button.

I am going to assume you are using WiFi.

Can you see if an Ethernet cable works.  As an experiment, even if you have to move the iMac to be near the router.

Again assuming WiFi, you can look to see if you are getting good signal strength via WiFi

Hold the "Option/Alt" key -> Click on the WiFi icon and look at the RSSI and Noise fields

    Screen Shot 2016-04-16 at 1.38.36 PM.png

You want to see something in the -30 (excellent) to -60's range for the RSSI (this is your signal strength)

And you would like to see -80 to -90 for the Noise.  The closer the Noise and RSSI are to each other or worse inverted, the poorer your WiFi reception will be.

I have already tried with different cables and different ports but it still did not work.

I also tried with the same cables in a laptop I have with Windows and it worked perfectly.

I will try to do what you advise me and afterwards I get back with the results.

    Thanks

    Hello BobHarris,

I re-tried again entering in safe mode but the result was the same.

I also change the DNS but I didn't see any kind of improval.

I checked the RSSI and Noise values and they are outside the interval you indicated, as you can see in the image below.

I think I am going to activate the warranty, since I cannot understand what has happened.

Try setting your IPv6 configuration to "link-local only"

    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Configure IPv6 -> link-local only

There was a recent post from someone that had issues between their Mac and their ISP, and the ISP told them to set IPv6 link-local only.  Most likely because the ISP was not dealing well with IPv6 traffic.

So this is just a shot in the dark, but it is something to try.

And invoking your warranty is always an option, along with making a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store.
