Are videos in your slideshow? The soundtrack music you added will be silenced, while a video is playing, so you can hear the sound from your video.

To add music to your slideshow click the Music Settings button, enable "Play Music during Slideshow", set the source to your iTunes Library, select a song.

Music you want to use must not be protected sound files, apple Music, or only in iCloud. It needs to be stored locally.

The grey badge is a lock icon.  You do not have the right to access the audio files of that songs. Have these songs been purchased with a different Apple ID? Or do you not have write access to those files in your iTunes Library?  DO the songs play in iTunes?

That lock can mean that the file has Digital Rights Management protection and can't be exported with a slideshow or to iDVD.  If you purchased the song you should be able to play it in iPhoto but not export it.  If you try you'll get this message:

    iPhoto002.jpg

So try to export the slideshow and see if you get that message.

I tried, OT, but the DRM protected songs do not show the lock icon in my slideshow playlist.  No matter what I try, I cannot make the songs in the playlist show the lock.

Do you also have DRM protected songs in your iTunes Library, in spite of upgrading to iTunes Plus as advertised? I am having still 24 "Protected AAC audio file"  songs, that have not been converted to plain "AAC audio files" without restrictions, probably because the iTunes store cannot offer unrestricted versions. But the iTunes Plus advertisement does not explain, that not all songs will be converted.

I have several tracks I purchased from Apple with DRM on them.  Saving Grace was one of them.

Apple Music lets you listen to the music, but you are not allowed to create copies, and if you add them to a slideshow and export the slideshow as a video, it would be a copy without the digital rights attached. So you cannot save your slideshow as a video.

But it wont let me buy it.

Search the same song in the iTunes Store and you can purchase it.
