Q: Back Up Option

Hello everyone:

I am currently trying to find the best back up set up for my devices.

I have a MacBook Air, iPhone 6 plus and iPad Pro.  Which would be the best to back up all these items.  I know the iCloud can't as far as I know.

Thank you,

Antonio

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

You have 2 options making backups for your devices.

    1. Use your Mac's iTunes with the device(s) connected and selected.

    2. Use iCloud on your device(s)

For your Mac, get an external drive and use OS X's Time Machine.

But I am looking to back up the Macbook as well.  I carry all the devices with me daily.  If I lost the MacBook, then I would lose everything. I was looking for a cloud option or something that works easily with Apple Devices

For your Mac, see Michael tip.

For online OS X backup services you can look to other vendors (carbonite, Dropbox backup, etc). iCloud from Apple does not provide for an OS X backup service at all, but there are other online services that are compatible with backups for a Mac and OS X.

One good way to build in redundancy of your backups is to use iTunes (as well as iCloud) for your iDevices.  Then, backup your Mac with time machine (for file recovery) and something like CarbonCopyCloner to a separate external drive that you store safely somewhere when not in use (household fire safe or cabinet).  The advantage of a clone is that you have a wholly bootable copy of your system that you can plug into any Mac and boot up into your own system in a pinch.  Your iTunes backups of your iPhone or iPad will now be doubly backed up in TM and/or a clone drive as well.  For either TM or a clone, an inexpensive bus-powered portable drive works fine - no need for a power adapter and you can just plug it in as needed to backup.
