Does that apply to earlier iMacs, too?

Apr 18, 2016 9:02 AM in response to seventy oneby stevejobsfan0123,If you mean earlier iMacs that aren't receiving updates anymore, then it should still be OK, at least for now; as QuickTime vulnerabilities for Windows wouldn't affect OS X, and I'm not aware of any vulnerabilities in older versions of the Mac app.

Apr 18, 2016 10:53 AM in response to stevejobsfan0123by ChitlinsCC,I musta missed it... What is the threat? Can it be mitigated by taking care? (I am stuck on a DELL for now, sadly)
I suppose I could use my search skills to Goggle it, but stating the facts here might be handy for others

No, you are in great danger!
RIP QuickTime for Windows. Apple is "deprecating support" for the application, and will no longer patch security flaws in the software.
In this regard, QuickTime for Windows now joins Microsoft Windows XP and Oracle Java 6 as software that is no longer being updated to fix vulnerabilities, and subject to ever-increasing risk as more and more unpatched vulnerabilities are found affecting it.
So, Windows users should uninstall Quicktime. How to do so is detailed here:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205771
Mac OS users should not do so as the security risks that have prompted this do not affect the Apple OS.

I guess I was really wondering how threats were "acquired" by a reasonable user such as myself - I don't download MOVs from wacky places!
Online video is handled by HTML5 mostly these days - and I don't do much of that
Alas, another cowboy rides off into the sunset............... Happy Trails!
