Q: Mail not fetching on schedule

My email does not fetch on the 15 minute schedule l have set up in my settings.  Consistently I see that my inboxes are not updating.  As you can see it was 26 minutes between my fetches, based on the timestamp on this screenshot at the top and the status of my inbox near the bottom.

I'm hesitant to contact apple directly, because I know they'll say this is based on signal strength or strength of my connection.  However, this happens at home, at work, in city, out of city, on Wi-Fi, LTE, 4G, 3G...you name it, and for both my Microsoft Exchange (work) and Gmail (personal) accounts  Oh, not to mention this happened on my previous device, an iPhone 5.  I was hoping when I updated to the iPhone 6s this last fall, the problem would be remedied since I previously attributed this to older hardware.  I always make a point to update my iOS to latest versions when available.

Anyone have suggestions on how to get my phone on my desired schedule?  I know I can just update it when I open the app, but would be nice to get my notifications in a timely manner.

    Couple of steps -

Try to delete the account - force re start the phone and add it back in

Also try a 30 minute interval to see if that works every time

I know this is not a direct answer to your question, but you can "force" an update by pulling the sidebar down with your finger.

Please also remember that when you set your preferences to Push email updates, nothing will change if there are no emails ready to be "pushed."

Appreciate the help, and I do force the updates.  I'm trying to get the app to fetch and give me notification so that when I'm on the go, I know whether or not I have messages to respond to, rather than having to open up and refresh each time.

I do not have "Push" activated, just "Fetch New Data" set on 15 minutes.

I upgraded to iOS 10....and I am still having the same issues.  Both for Microsoft Exchange and Gmail accounts.

I have my fetch settings to 15 minutes, and I can pull up my phone and see that the mailboxes haven't been updated in 20 minutes or more and need to do a force "swipe down" update to get it to refresh.  I've been missing emails when out of pocket, and been very frustrated about this for some time now.

I'm about one cracked screen or dropped iPhone away from going to Samsung.  Nothing exciting about iPhones anymore....still same basic functionalities ever since the beginning, except now it's water resistant.  And iOS 10 only make my phone more invasive, vulnerable, and incredibly complicated to send out a simple text message.
