Airport Extreme and Cox Internet IPv6 Problem

Of course Cox & Apple point to each other. I've been working on this almost 2 weeks - new cables from street to and through house. Still, when Airport Extreme settings switched to local only, speed dropped to 54.6 mbps.

Today's Cox rep said that she has not received any calls about this problem with user of any other router manufacturer and that they have been advised Apple needs to provide a firmware update for this problem. I will say that hard-wired to modem provides the 100+ mbps. We users are stuck in the middle - who needs to fix this?

Has anyone had a successful fix speaking with Apple?

I'm not on Cox, but a good friend in New Orleans who is....who knows what he is doing....reports that IPv6 is working just fine for him when he uses by the same IPv6 settings that work well with Comcast and Time Warner......except.....that he is using the Goggle IPv4 DNS servers.......8.8.8.4 and 8.8.4.4 instead of the Cox servers.

To make things interesting, he also reports that Cox Support told him earlier that his Apple router was not compatible with their IPv6 service. I spoke to him again this morning, and his IPv6 connection has been solid for 2+ weeks.

The link for the IPv6 setup on Comcast is just below.  The exact same settings have worked very well for me for 6+ months on Time Warner.  (I do not use the Google DNS servers, I use the Time Warner servers).

I have no idea if this would work for you or not. If you have the time and the inclination, you might want to try this out.  Please post back on your results if you decide to give it a try.

Have been having the same issue for weeks.  Finally, Melinda @ Cox gave me the fix:

    Open Airport Utility

    Select the device to edit

    Click on the Internet tab

    Select Internet Options

Change Configure IPv6: to Link-local only.

    Close, save, and update.

    No more dropping signal.

Not exactly a "fix", or even a "workaround" since you are now paying Cox for IPv6 service that you are not receiving.

Might be worth trying to find a real "fix", but up to you to decide.

The problem with this fix is that my remote base stations are no longer discoverable. Anyone else having this problem?

It has been suggested in this forum and others that I've read that the problem can be solved properly not by disabling IPv6 by setting it to Link-local but by avoiding the use of Cox's DNS servers and to use Google's Public DNS servers instead. I thought that I should post up how to set that up for those who don't know. Please post up your results after running this configuration and let us know if this is working for you or not.

Use this link to confirm the addresses for Google's Public DNS (also shown in the screen shot below,) https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
