Your error message sounds slightly different to the one I was able to reproduce so the following might not apply to you. However…

    1. While the default URL in the dialog is a .local based domain I would not consider that to be appropriate since Profile Manager needs a properly working Internet accessible hostname and would be saying you should use a real host/domain name
    2. Similarly I would not use an IP address
    3. I did find the default URL was intended to use the new DEP - Device Enrolment Program, in my case my Profile Manager is not set up to support this because our company has not joined that program and hence it was rejected
    4. If I therefore used a URL like http://myprofilemanager.domain.com it was accepted

While I still recommend using a properly registered host/domain name for the address of the Profile Manager server I did specifically try a Bonjour name e.g. server.local and it worked. Again this was after deleting the extra bits from the example URL which are for DEP type enrolments.

    So https://server.local worked for me.

Just curious, but why put in device manager instead of Profile Manager? The latter is what we use.

In other words, this option is only for DEP enrollments,I understand that correctly?

No I am saying the default format of URL as auto entered in the box is for DEP enrolments but if you modify it to be just the format https://servername.local or https://servername.domain.com and nothing else it seems to work with non-DEP setups.
