Q: Bootcamp panic

OK guys i have made a big **** up. Basically windows 7 on bootcamp was working fine. I then decided to shrink the bootcamp partition in windows disc management. And the space claim back i was going to use as the second windows simple or logical drive. I followed the wizzard and all my drives turned from blue primaries to light green logicals i think. I knew i was in trouble. Tryed to backstep but to no avail. Now nothing boots without using cmd r. I can see my main disc and the 4 disc partitions greyed out underneath it In disc util.nCan i restore this anyway without losing my mac data. Dont give a stuff about the windows particions. Please help totally scundered

Inspect the internal disk for possible recovery options. Your GPT should be corrupt.

Please post the output of the following OS X Terminal commands after you boot from the external disk.

    diskutil list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

This is as expected. Can you run

    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

It will prompt you about a MBR, a GPT, etc. . You want to pick option 2 - GPT, which will get Gdisk to show the GPT correctly.

Using Windows Disk Management converted this disk to MBR, as shown in the second line of your GPT command output. It also corrupted the CRC, because GPT has a table at both ends of the disk, Gdisk should be able to read the backup table, and show you a GPT. You may see two (or more) spurious entries in the GPT after GPT4, which are meaningless garbage that Disk Management created.

This is expected. We are going to wipe this GPT and create a new one, using Gdisk and create only the first four entries. Can you use Re: Unable to boot into mac or bootcamp as a reference and the values that you see in the first four(4) entries of your specific output and create a new GPT? The linked thread ha steh same issue as you have.

This should allow you to boot OSX. Once OSX boots from the internal disk, we can fix BOOTCAMP using Gdisk.

you are one clever person and i truely thank you. We are up and running again on the internal HD. Now how do i get ride of bootcamp totally, there may be 2 particions in there if you think back to how my problem started by creating an extra partition.
