Q: iPad suddenly turned off while using it and won't power up at all

Hello,

Yesterday, I was using "Sketches Pro" on my iPad (4th Generation) WIFI+SIM and all of a sudden, it turned off.

The battery was 95% charged.

I barely use my iPad so it hasn't been dropped to have some hardware damage.

I've tried the Power + Home buttons simultaneously several times but still the iPad is not powering up at all!

I also tried charging it for few hours, and no life signs.

Connected to iTunes, the iPad was not detected.

PS: iOS is the most recent update, I can't remember the number, since there has been so many lately.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank You

iPad, iOS 9.3.1

Try Recovery Mode. If that does not help you may have no choice but to take it to an Apple Store for hardware evaluation.

    Turn off your iPhone.

Connect the phone charging cable to the computer only (not to the iPhone yet).

    Open iTunes on your computer.

Press and hold the power button on your phone and don’t let go.

Connect the cable to the phone while keeping the power button pressed down.

Wait until the computer detects the phone and wait for it to restore.

Restore as New first and then restore from backup(s) if desired.

I would like, at first, to thank you for the reply.

I've just tried this fix, but nothing worked. The iPad seems to be tot dead. This is weird, because it happened inadvertently!

I want to mention that I've tried the DFU mode to recover the iPad, and yes, iTunes detected an iPad with no serial number connected and asked to recover it. After the IPSW exctraction, I get a message saying that the recovery has failed (error code 4005)

What could possibly be happening here? Any ideas?

    Regards

I have restored my iPad many times but I have never had to use Recovery Mode or DFU. However I know that DFU mode is very difficult to get into and users have reported that they have to try many times before they are able to actually enter into it as timing is critical. I would keep trying. This article may help.

Edit: Not much help here but nonetheless... If you see error 9, 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your iOS device - Apple Support

    Hello,

I've been trying all these methods like power+home button for different periods, power button alone  different periods, home button alone for different periods, while on charge and while not on charge. So basically I covered all the available possiblilites but no life signs except for a little time in DFU modes.

This is really creepy and weird... I am trying to think about a hardware malfunction and considering to take it to the repair shop since  experienced this here.

    What do you think?

So, accidentally and while trying this Power and Home buttons combination, the iPad powered up normally for 10 minutes or so and then... It shut down, never powering up again... Should I be looking for a hardware issue?

If you have tried Recovery Mode as I suggested above and also DFU mode and neither works, then hardware could be the issue. Please note that both Recovery and DFU may take more than one try, they are notorious for not working first time around. Users often have to try several times so I would not give up until you have done so.

    Hello

So today, I put the iPad in the repair shop. When I came to collect it, the guy told me that he's still on it but as first diagnosis, there is a CPU problem. I have no clue what might cause this.

He also told me that I might consider burying it.

He asked for couple of more days, maybe he figures out a way to "ressurrect" it.

Until then, I will be praying. Haha. I will inform you about it. Just in case, anyone has a similar one in the future.

    Thank you
