Would you like to be more specific on what you're experiencing? When does this occur?  Take you back from where? To where in the library?

Also what system and Photos versions are you using?

So when i am compiling a phonebook you see the photos at the bottom - the ones you have selected to go in the book.

So for example i will drag a picture in and a whole bunch more and it always goes back to the first picture you have associated to the phonebook instead of keeping you in the same sequence and next photo from where you last dragged in.

The versions i amusing are as follows:-

    iPhoto - Version 1.0.1 (215.65.0)

System - OSX Yosemite version 10.10.5

    Thanks

It is much quicker to work with a photo book, if you do not add all photos at once to the book.

Create an album with the photos you want to use in the book, arrange the photos in the album in the order you want, For a large book create separate albums for each chapter.

Drag this album in the sidebar directly above the book project.

Now drag only those photos from the album to the book, that you will need for the next few pages.  I take great care, to keep the strip of unused photos as short as possible to avoid the scrolling through the photos and add the photos for each page separately.

Try léonie's workflow.  In the meantime tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.
