Q: Ipod nano 3rd Gen has stopped responding.

I've had this iPod ever since my 16th birthday, 8 years ago. Sometimes a reset was neccessary, but never before has it just stopped responding.

It fell out of its protective case, but dangled on the headphone for a second while I was trying to catch it. It never hit the floor, but the screen went black and no amount of trying to reset it will help.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

You're lucky the iPod lasted as long as it did. You must have taken very good care of it.

Unfortunately, it sounds like it's time replace it.

Make sure the Hold switch is not in the ON position.  Did you try doing a Reset (restart) as described in this document

Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support  (see section iPod with a click wheel)

Confirm (by reading the document) that you are pressing and holding the correct buttons.  If the iPod is low on battery power, you can do this while it is connected to power.  You don't see any response on the iPod's screen when you do a Reset?

Thanks, but as stated in the OP, I've tried a reset many a time. There is no reaction on the screen.

Some people say "reset" and mean something else.  Or they incorrectly press/hold Menu and Play/Pause buttons (because that's what it was on their older iPod).

If there's no reaction on the screen when you press/hold the Reset buttons:  (1) The Hold switch is ON.  (2) The iPod's battery is completely drained.  OR (3) There is a hardware problem on your iPod.
