Q: Macbook Pro used as Monitor for Yamaha Receiver set-up

Can I use my 15" Retina Macbook Pro (with Thunderbolt & HDMI ports) as a monitor for setting-up my Yamaha stereo receiver ?

    Hey Nodawurri, 

    I understand that you would like to see if you can get video from your Yamaha Stereo Receiver. Let go over what the ports on your MacBook Pro can do.

    The HDMI port on your MacBook Pro will be used for video output. This would allow you to extend the Desktop of your Mac to your HDTV.

    The Thunderbolt port would be used for a display that supports that type of connection to extend your desktop as well. It can also handle storage devices, video capture, FireWire, and gigabit ethernet adapters through the port. If you are trying to capture video, you are going to need app that would allow you to see what is coming from the receiver.
