Q: Resound Linx

Update:   Last week my audiologist updated the firmware on the hearing aids.   It vastly improved battery life AND bluetooth reliability.  Although I have been able to mostly (but not always or consistently) use it while the phone is in my pocket the bluetooth function is still imperfect -but exponentially better.   I also updated to iOS 9 beta which may have also made a difference.    The music is still tinny and thin, but they are not earbuds, they are hearing aids.  One new problem after the software/firmware update:   My hearing aids compete with my cars bluetooth connection to my iPhone 6.   The voice call will bounce between the car speakers and the hearing aids.  Very annoying.  This issue is new to the upgraded hearing aid firmware and the iOS 9 beta update.

Again, I am very (very) pleased with the multi functionality of these hearing aids as well as the hearing aid sound quality.  It can only get better!

For those of you following this thread, I thought I'd add a tidbit of information regarding the tinny sound when streaming music. Looking at the brochure, the hearing aids are only able to produce sound down to 100 hertz. Obviously, if you listen to bass-heavy music, it won't sound that great through these aids. FYI.

I have also noticed that streaming is flaky when connected to wifi. This could be due to slow wifi (if streaming music through iTunes Radio, for example).

I am new to hearing aids and am demo'ing a single Linux 9 right now. I have a few questions about pairing/bluetooth/app.

My iphone is too old to run the app, but I've played around with it on my ipad. I plan on getting an iphone 6 or 6s in the fall.

I listen to a lot of podcasts. My audiologist recommends 2 hearing aids, though my "good" ear only has moderate high frequency loss. The sound quality of an earbud in my good ear is much better than streaming into the hearing aid. If I get a second HA, then I'll be limited to streaming only.

Now to the questions:

I'm concerned about battery life with the iphone and hearing aids. Does having the iphone & hearing aids paired suck down the batteries (in both devices) if you are not actively streaming?

Can you pair the hearing aids with both an iphone (using the general->accessability settings) for using the settings and phone calls and an ipod nano (using bluetooth) for streaming podcasts? It seems like I would need to iphone for volume & settings control, but if I stream a few hours of podcasts my iphone might run out of juice before the end of the day. I'd rather use my nano for listening. Can they be paired at the same time, or do I need to switch?

I Stream audio at least 2 hours a day and haven't noticed a drop in battery life on either device.  Right now I get about 4.5 days on a set of batteries on my 312 batteries. Since I recharge my phone nightly, it's not a problem. Plus I use my iPhone 6 as my desk phone at work so it's plugged in all day.

I Had a similar concern about the frequency response but discovered that hearing aids in general do not produce sound below 100hz so the sound is naturally tinny. Hope this helps. All in all, I love my lynx2 7's.

I have the LS961 HA and called ReSound regarding any firmware updates – their response was that they don’t update once devices are released – is that correct, or do the audiologist have access to all updates?

I have ReSound Enzo 9 HAs and my audiologist checks for updates and applies when I visit....only actually been an update once in last year but she checks each time.

I just purchased the Resound linx2 9, and it is paired to my iPhone working very well.  I am using OS X ver 10.10.5 & ISO 8.4.1   When my iPhone receives a call, I can answer it on my iPad Air or Macbook Pro, if that is what I happen to be working on.  Since I  paired my iPhone to my hearing aids, this function doesn't work anymore. Also Resound says that it can be paired to any ISO device.  Anyone have this problem?

Are the Resound Linx 9s more stable for phone calls with the Resound Phone Clip+??

I am demo'ing the Resound Linx 9s with an Iphone 6 IOS 8.4.1. I have tried all the iphone settings recommended by Resound but still have issues with the aides dropping in and out during calls. I work on the phone all day and can't afford to every have a lost connection. I am now thinking about moving to the Resound PhoneClip+ and streaming to the aides from the PhoneClip until Apple and Resound have stabilized their connectivity.

Does anyone have any experience with the Phone Clip+?

Am a veteran and got ReSound Linx 2 9 ITC from Denver VAMC.  I will say that they seem (when properly setup) clearer than Phonak aids so far.  However, seems to be some issue with getting them setup correctly (not sure if the aids are the problem or the audiologist's unfamiliarity).  She is using the latest program version and firmware version.

I had a distortion or digital clipping noise in both ears, still have a bit in the right one, she was able to minimize, but, seems that my high frequencies were a bit attenuated.  Don't think this is a physical problem with the aids, but, not sure what it was (transient noises or bells or dings sounded like static or clipped).

I tried both the app and no app, and agree with others, while the app is nice, and I can use it with my watch (iPhone 6s+ and watch, both with latest iOS versions), it's majorly flaky--streaming is usually not clean, and if I turn my head to left or right, the aid furthest away drops out (more on that).  The ganged volume controls keep un-ganging into separate ones.

I have been back to have them adjusted three times, each time audiologist had to call ReSound to help her, last time when she mentioned the aid dropping out when I turned my head, and that they didn't sync with each other (mode and volume adjusted in one aid also adjusts in the other), she burst out laughing.  Seems they told her that some people have fat heads or lots of water, so that the signal attenuates and they can't talk to each other (FIRST time synced aids I've used couldn't).  Due to that and other issues, she is getting me the BTE with the larger battery and antenna, to see if that works better.

I think this is a good start, but, just not ready for prime time, and evidently more training of audiologists, and more honesty of ReSound (the battery or attenuations issues with ITC models) is needed to avoid these issues.

Update.  I now have the GN Resound Linx2 TS 62 STD RIC, with a size 13 battery.  I have no issues any more with streaming dropping out on one ear or the other (until the batteries start to get low, ~ 4 or 5 days.  I have no problems with the aids talking to each other, I think also due to the larger batteries.  I have been back 3 times for adjustments, still not 110% perfect, but, VERY clear and clean aids, and I'm very pleased with them. 

I also just was fitted with he Linx2 RIE 7 32 with a iPhone 6 interface

understand it can  take up to a month to reprogram the brain to get used to the high frequency restoration

so far so good

iPhone app works well with the HA's.

Hi, Gmouse1.  Thank you for your service.  Like you, I will be getting my pair from the VA. It's nice to know the VA only provides top-of-the-line models like the LiNX2 961, and even nicer to know that, since I have a service-connected disability, it will be free!

I am learning everything I can to be ready for the fitting in two weeks.  This thread has been very informative, and I am printing out some of the most useful posts.  My only question right now, which perhaps my audiologist will explain during my fitting, has to do with audio transmitted from my iPhone 5 and/or iPad Air rather than coming from the environment.

I have typical age related loss: Right ear is (250, 500, 1K, 2K, 3K, 4K, 6K, 8K) => (10, 10, 15, 25, 35, 40, 45, 55 dB), and left ear is same pattern but 5 dB worse at all frequencies.  So I am getting the RIE type designed to allow lower frequencies from the environment to reach my eardrum directly. Doesn't this mean my hearing aids won't process or transmit the environmental lower frequencies?  If so, how will that affect my ability to hear lower frequencies contained in the Bluetooth audio stream?
