Q: bootcamp partition renamed untitled after booting in MacOS

Can anybody please help me ?

I had succesfully installed Windows 10 on my Macbook Pro and ran Windows already several weeks smoothly.

Unfortunately I did not make a backup of my windows files yet.

Today when I booted to El Capitan to connect my iPad to iTunes Windows gave me a message that it needed repair when I tried to reboot to the bootcamp Windows version.

It did not succeed in repairing and only gave my an advanced options menu.

I booted back into MacOS to find that the windows partition was renamed to 'Untitled' and that no files were visible in Finder.

I than ran Disk Utility and selected First Aid on this partition, I thought this was read only to check for disk errors.

Now when booting from Windows it says no operation system available and Disk Utility shows 496 GB empty space on this partition !

I hope not all my files are lost !!

What can I do to repair the bootcamp partition ? I tried to install setup bootcamp files on USB but cannot boot from USB (does not show the USB drive)

thank you !

    Hey Loner T,

I booted again from DVD to go into recovery mode and saw this screen:

    IMG_6059.JPG

    Use another operating system !

I get these two: windows 10 and windows 10 pro

    IMG_6060.JPG

The windows version that works but is the old one I talked about is the Windows 10 Pro and when I start the Windows 10 version I get this screen:

    IMG_6061.JPG

I did not run the bootrec yet since your last message, does this change things ?

    thank you

Since both of these reside within the 185GB current partition, there is no harm in trying to repair this with /rebuildBCD. Please ensure that you backup the current BCD, before you make changes.

You will need to use Testdisk and run a Deeper Search.

although we repairs the bcd testdisk this gives this result, does this mean something ? number of heads/cylinders mismatches ?

This was the only viable Windows header that we found using Testdisk. If your current recovered partition size is 185GB but you have a 470+ GB that you had, it indicates there was partition resizing executed. The issue you now have is related to the recoverability of the header which may correspond to the larger partition. Do you want run Testdisk again? Is it possible that you had a shared partition?

I am quite certain that I did not repartition the disk. I would not know how to do it... I remember I could read the windows files in OS X and vice versa, does this mean I had a shared partition ?

I am still running testdisk on another portion but I get the idea I keep getting out on that one Windows installation....

    1. You original MBR was

    *4: 07 1023 254  63 - 1023 254  63 [ 539879424 -  925265920] HPFS/QNX/AUX

    2. Your GPT was corrupt. The GPT Fdisk showed

    4       539877984      1464886983   441.1 GiB   0700  DOS_FAT_32_Untitled_2

    There is a discrepancy here.

    3. The GPT was rebuilt using the information from GPT Fdisk.

    n

    4

    539877984

    1464886983

    0700

    4. We can try the setup in the MBR and see what it yields.

Can you use Re: El Capitan has deleted my bootcamp windows partition as a reference and modify the values in first set, in steps 7 and 8 to 539879424 and 925265920 respectively and test?
