Q: iMac 5k lost power at work, is unable to turn on again.

I have a since 1-2 weeks a new iMac 5k with the highest configuration. Up to now, there where no problems. This morning I worked my email and suddenly the power was out. Black screen and off. No Chance for any reaction. At first I thought that maybe the power socket could be the problem. But the problem with that theory, I worked at the same time parallel with my old iMac over the same power socket infrastructure and it's running even now quite normal.

So I searched the Apple Support site to find answers on my question. Seems that no one had this kind of problem.  I worked after that the hole solution path through from Apple support site Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on - Apple Support. No way to turn the iMac back on. No reaction. The new iMac will not turn on. I use Mac's now for 20 years without any problems. Has anyone else ever experienced this situation to with the new iMac 5k? Maybe I had just bad luck with my iMac maybe not. I opened in the mean time a ticket with Apple to call me. Maybe they have a solution for the problem. It's good that my a old iMac Middle 2009 still work, but If you worked with a iMac 5k it's like a jump to a other generation (Even after 5 weeks delivery waiting time, for the iMac 5k. I don't hope this scenario comes again.)

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), iOS 8.1.2, 4,0GHz i7,32GB RAM,3TB SD,R9MX295X

I'm having the same issue. The iMac has had quite a few random kernel panics since I got it, but it was bearable (just needed to force-restart), and diagnostics did not find anything wrong. When I came to work this morning, it simply would not turn on. Sometimes it won't respond at all, other times it will show the Apple logo and the progress-bar for 2 seconds (no progress) before it seemingly turns off again. I am not able to enter into any diagnostics/recovery mode, and I never hear the chime. It seems, however, like the iMac is still on after the screen goes black. The fans are running, but nothing else responds.

e2783: Did you ever see the Apple logo at all? Have you resolved your issue?

Mystery,  iMac 27" 5K stops working, i took it to apple store, it worked there/  I took it home, it didn't work, I took it back, it worked at the store and then back home and yes, you guessed it - It did not power up again.  I changed plugs, changed power cords, and still no solution because it won't work at home?  Is there anything I'm missing here?

I'm having the same issue with my brand new iMac 5k (built to highest specs). After being powered off overnight it wouldn't start up!

No start up chime or power to the screen but it is possible to hear/feel some hardware at work after button is pressed

I finally managed to get it to start by:

-unplugging the machine from power for 1min

-opening up the rear panel, and ejecting the RAM slots

-putting RAM and panel back in place.

After plugging back in, a second press of the power button started  the system.

As a side issue, I get kernel panics whenever I switch off my thunderbolt external drive.

Not sure if this is a hardware or firmware issue. Anyone got any idea what this could be?

My late 2015 5K iMac froze up twice and I restarted twice, on the third time however it wouldn't start. I got the chime, the black screen and Apple logo but the progress bar only gets half way before it powers down.

I tried removing every cable, removed the power cord, removed and replaced the RAM like the previous post but the result is the same.

I'm on a deadline of course and about to go away for two days.

    Marvellous.

First, have you been able to use the Apple Diagnostics Test?

Second, have you tried booting from a recovery disk?

Did you manage to resolve this issue, I have exactly the same problem with a  maxed out mac.  it started to reboot a couple of weeks ago, now it just died and won't come back on.

    Hi

I had to send my iMac for repair after a couple of hours or so on the phone to Apple and I lost all my data.

The software 'bonding' between the SSD and spinning disk that make up the Fusion Drive, failed. I downloaded OSX to an external drive and could boot from there but my Mac HD wasn't visible or recoverable, so I had to send it in for repair.

I was told at first that I should be able to recover my data however the engineer disagreed and it had to be a clean install. I was out of action for a week and after getting my iMac back to where I wanted it, the same thing happened again - almost. My iMac froze and I had to power down. On rebooting, it hung on the status bar for a few minutes but it eventually booted up but it took minutes to do so fully.

I'm about to create a mirrored RAID and send it back for a completely new Fusion Drive.

I think the Fusion Drive is perhaps floored in practice and would prefer the option of an SSD but I don't want to pay an extra £560 for a drive half the size.

Mac's maybe aren't what they used to be.
