Q: Family Sharing and ask to buy

i get a message from my grandson who wants to get something at App Store. However, there is no way to authorize the purchase. the message appears on the ipad lock screen and no where else. It disappears upon unlocking the ipad. Shouldn't there be an option to approve the purchase?
