Can you tell me which troubleshooting steps from the If you can’t connect to the iTunes Store article you tried? In the section On your Mac or PC, I can see that you've updated to the latest version of OS X (if your profile is correct). Did you update your iTunes software as well? Did you check your firewall settings and take a look at Keychain First Aid? Are you getting a specific error message?
Please reply back with a little more information if you can ....

Thanks for your continued interest. I did try all the things you suggested and finally called Apple Support. My problem has been referred to Apple engineers. I hope to hear back tomorrow.

May 12, 2016 3:13 PM in response to ceisenby ceisen,Well, it's been three weeks and still no help from Apple's engineers. Today, I tried something else: I changed my Apple password. As expected the new password was accepted for the iTunes store on my iPad and iPhone but not while using my MBP and now I'm unable to sign into iCloud on my MBP - the same error message appears: There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server. I'm getting frustrated!
