Q: AirPlay passcode issue

I have a MacBook running El Capitan, an iPad Pro and an iPhone 6S with the latest iTunes and OSX on all three.


Whenever I try to connect to AppleTV4 and enter the passcode number provided by AppleTV, I get the red error message "The code is incorrect."


The code entered is exactly what was provided by AirPlay, nevertheless, I keep getting the error.


Any thoughts on a solution????

    Try turning off the ATV AirPlay passcode option and see if it works then. You may need to wait for a tvOS software update for it to work. Do you actually need security control on AirPlay to ATV? If it's a real problem for you, report it at http://www.apple.com/feedback/

    I do not really need the security control and I tried that, however, my MacBook still requests a passcode despite the fact that I turned off the security setting.

    Power cycle everything, including the computer. Sounds like it's remembering what it saw before. If you can AirPlay from iPad, then ATV is fine, and you just have a problem with the computer.

    I can not AirPlay from the iPad either.

     

    I power cycled both the computer and the AppleTV and when I tried to connect after powering back up I still get the request for a passcode.

    Do a restore on the ATV.  It sounds corrupted.   Restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support

    That was one of the first things I tried.  I received the same error after the reset.

    I think Vinceassociate meant that you should select the restore option, not just reset of all settings. I believe it will refresh your software.

     

    Let's concentrate on iPad for a moment. AirPlay is enabled on ATV with no special restrictions. iPad and ATV are on the same WiFi network. When you open AirPlay in the iPad Control Center, do you see Apple TV as an option? I hope you have only one ATV, or that you've given them different names. If you're able to enable AirPlay on iPad, can you play a video to the TV, something simple like YouTube or Vimeo? At which point in this list of events does your experience differ from mine?

    Airplay code is driven by ATV.  If it is turned off and still asks, it is not operating correctly.

    Although it is confusing Reset is not the same as Restore.

    A restore erases the ATV and reloads all the software.

    Do a restore since your software must be corrupted.

    Okay...now I'm confused.

     

    When I go to System in the Apple TV menu there is NO "Restore"  option.  The only two Options are "Reset" and "Reset and Update".

    If you read the linked doc, it says you select Reset, then choose Restore from the popup. Try it.

    Please read carefully and follow the instructions at the link I posted on restoring your Apple TV.

    Follow the Restore option.

    This will erase and reload the system software on your Apple TV.  You will then have an ATV just like new and out of the box.  You will need to setup the ATV like new.  Refrain from setting up any Airplay pass codes or passwords and see how things go.

    Modern electronics have rewritable chips to store the basic operating program of the unit.  The cool part is the unit can download a new updated program and act like a different machine.  The bad part is these chips can garble the program due to voltage spikes, drops, static etc.  When this happens, the program is altered and computers being computers follow the new garbled version without question.  Odd and unexpected behavior results.  It's like getting hit over the head except the dizziness never goes away.  Flushing the old program and loading a new copy clears out the possibility of this corruption.
