Q: iPhone not recognized in iTunes 12.3

I have iTunes 12.3 installed on a laptop running Windows 10 and cannot get my iPhone 6 plus with ios 9.0 to be recognized to sync or backup.  The troubleshooting indicated it may be incompatible with USB 3.0.  What can I do to resolve this issue? Thank you

Did you do a tear down and rebuild of iTunes?

What version of iTunes are you currently running?

I'm running 12.3.3. I'm worried about the teardown and rebuild as I'm not very tech, is it hard to do? Will I lose everything or is it simply just like an uninstall reinstall thing? Thank you so much for your help tt2:) I've gotten further with you than I ever have before. Danielle

Yes, uninstall and reinstall. The steps I've given you won't damage the library. If you cannot make 12.3.3 work then take comfort that you're not alone, and that others have been able to roll back to 12.3.2 successfully and get everything working again. You can do it too.

Hi tt2, just wanted to let you know that my computer is still not recognizing my phone:( I went into the Genius Bar and we tried everything. They seem to think it's a fault with windows, but I just don't know??? Anyway, thanks so much for trying to help me. D

I've thrown in some extra advice for step 3 which might help. Make sure you've applied any patches from Windows Update first.

If your iOS device isn't showing in iTunes try the following:

    1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
    2. Plug in your device
    3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
    4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
    5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
    6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
                      C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

For step 3 above, open the device manager. Expand any of these sections that are listed.

    • Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    • Imaging Devices
    • Portable Devices
    • Other Devices

Connect the device. You should hear the telltale sound of Windows device connection and one section should gain a new entry. That should be your device. It may not be labelled correctly at this stage.

turingtest2 none of these things have worked for me, I cannot find Apple Mobile Device USB Driver anywhere for device but when I go to device services it is running. I had tried 3 different cords but it will still not work.

At step three do you not see some activity in the device manager when you connect the device?

No I do not. When I plug it in it doesn't make a noise like when I plug other things in such as a regular usb drive or to hook up my mouse.

Then I would suspect either fluff in your docking port is preventing a proper connection, or the device is faulty. Note it may charge while not completing the circuit used for transferring data.

It does charge just will not connect with iTunes. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes like 5 times. Do you have any other ideas of what I should do?

Inspect the docking port with a torch and magnifying glass?

Test with another computer and cable?

Make an appointment at a genius bar?
