Exactly which OS X is installed and which Safari version ?

For your Mac, click your Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. Which version do you see?

For Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > About Safari. Which version do you see there?

    Ok ...

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click:  Remove All Website Data. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

If that doesn't help, you may have a Safari extension or third party plug-in installed that's causing a conflict. It's easy to troubleshoot.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, uninstall one at a time then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Thanka, Carolyn, for your suggestions. I've tried them all but problem persists. It's really frustrating as it inhibits me from managing my sales on eBay. The thing is that some months ago I did not have this problem.

Thanks, Eric, for your input. I can't think of any apps I've added in the recent past that might be the culprit. The only third party app that's in use and could possibly be the problem is called Cookie; of course used to manage/limit cookies. I've tried turning it off but no success. I'm thinking that there may be a cache file somewhere that I need to clear out.

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

    Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

    Hello Eric,

Thanks for staying with me on my Safari issue. Problem not solved yet but wanted to let you know where I am in the process. Firstly, I already have a guest account set up and a clone (also do nightly user account backup plus Time Machine) so I tried guest account first then booted from clone. Although there was a lot of baloon time with the clone version, my eBay  page worked perfectly in both. The clone is running OS 10.11.3 rather than 10.11.4 on my computer. I have not added any software to my computer since my last clone was made but there may well have been updates to things like PS CC 2015. I also re activated PS CS6 when PS CC 2015 would not complete a particular action.

I'll go back now to trying to isolate the issue.

Eric, I also did the safe mode boot and reboot; no luck with issue.
