Q: repairing bootcamp after partition

hi, my bootcamp won't start.

I can see the bootcamp files on finder and also see the bootcamp system on startup disk in system preference of my OS but when ever I choose to restart my computer using window it just says no bootable device found and goes all black.

I recently updated my os to el capitan and deleted unused partition that was taking up space.

I don't know much about computers so if you could help me I will be so grateful!!!!

Open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal. Triple-click on each individual line below, and Copy (Command+C) and Paste (Command+V) in the Terminal window. Copy the output and paste it in as a reply. You will be prompted for your password which will not be echoed back to you.

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    You have two separate issues.

    1. Your Recovery HD is the incorrect size. It is usually 620 MB, but it is now 5.1Gb.

    2. Your MBR entry #4 is incorrect. Let us try to fix this first before we solve the other issue.

    A. We need to disable SIP (System Integrity Protection).

    1. Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R).

    2. Start Utilities -> Terminal.

    3. Type csrutil disable in Terminal and press Enter/Return.

    4. Type csrutil status.

    5. Boot normally, and type csrutil status to confirm that all individual entries are still disabled.

    B. Correct the MBR. Please ignore the i386 MBR errors, but not any others.

    sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

    p

    setpid 4

    07

    flag 4

    p

    w

    y

Reboot and Test. If It works repeat step A with csrutil enable to re-enable SIP.

Please backup OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point. Post back when you are ready, and we can address issue 1 - incorrect Recovery HD size.

Time Machine does not back up Windows. You should use a separate external drive and boot into Windows, format this drive exclusively for Windows backups and set it up for Backup (or File History) as appropriate.

The first TM full backup takes longer than the subsequent incremental backups.

Boot into Internet Recovery, and run the following command.

    diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" disk0s2 disk0s3

This will put the disk space back in OSX. The order of the disk slices is critical otherwise you will lose OSX.

Once you have completed the merge, re-install OSX, but be aware that you may get an older version of oSX (shipped originally with your Mac). You will need to upgrade.

The other option is to install OSX on an external disk - How to install OS X on an external drive connected to your Mac - Apple Support - and upgrade it to match what is in the internal disk. Boot from this external boot disk in Local Recovery (not Internet Recovery) and re-install OSX. Please ensure you choose the internal disk as a destination to rebuild Recovery HD.

It is safer to use a third-party product like Winclone or CampTune. You can use Gparted, but it requires more effort.
