Q: iPhone 6 constantly disconnecting from Audi MMI

My iPhone 6 constantly (and, it appears, randomly) disconnects from the MMI system in my 2013 A6. I updated the cable to the latest version (genuine Audi) to see if this solved the issue but it continues to do so. I didn't have the problem with my iPhone 5 which I never bothered to upgrade to iOS 8, so I suspect it's an iOS 8 problem. I've tried multiple ways of connecting, phone off, connect, then switch on. Phone on, connect, MMI on etc. etc. to no avail. My current suspicion is it may be a charging issue as my phone was 100% charged this morning when I plugged it in, and everything worked fine but when I plugged in this evening (circa 45% charged) the constant disconnecting occurred again. It will connect, play a few seconds/minutes of a track, disconnect and then the process repeats.

    Hi,

I have the same issue with my A5 Sportback from 2014 since the very beginning With the iphone6. Since last week the iphone did not connect even for the typical couple of seconds. So I changed my cable today and explained tat I expect a final solution from Audi....Today my Audi deales promised to get further info from some specialists. At least today it was the very first time he told me, that he does not expect that it will work even with the new cable. However, unfortunately he was right... Not want I wanted to hear, but at least honest... I will now check the proposal with the extention and an Accu of more than 75%. If someone has another idea, would be great to share it here.

I Can´t believe that two premium high tech companies are not able to solve this issue...it´s a shame!

    bye,

    Thomas

It certainly looks as though the phone needs to be +75% charged to avoid the issue.   I've attached the latest cable ....AM directly and have used an extension cable with the same resulting 10 seconds of music before it cuts out and reconnects when under 75% Charge.  Music and album covers are all visible for as long as mmi recognises the phone is attached.  Audi garage did not have a clue.   I'm not sure if the fault lies with Audi or Apple but either way it's damned frustrating.    Stumped on a fix.

Thank you ixi1985.   A combination of the latest mmi cable, a lightning extension cable and disabling handoff fixed the problem.   Connection now continuos, artwork transfers etc.

Glad to hear it is working for you now.

Do you definately need the separate extension cable to get it to work properly?

unfortunatley yes.   Phone was at 21% charge and still disconnected when directly attached to the mmi.   Added the cable and all was fixed once I'd disabled by the handoff function on the phone.

maybe the cable restricts the extra power that the iphone 6 can use while charging.

I first thought it might take too much power from mmi when charging so that the mmi cannot handle it anymore and thus drops the connection.

but the disconnect from mmi is not a iPhone6(plus)-only problem.

I even had this issue with my iPod touch. Never tested it with the iPhone again after the iPod worked.

    Hallo  at all,

i think i have found (with the help from the other Users here) the Problem..this problem exists for iPhone 6 and higher (6S etc.) because they need more power/electricity to charge as they oldest IPhones and the car disconnect the Phone! Many users at this online page and other Pages sayed that it is a charging Problem.. this is correct.. this helps for me (and i hope also for you guys):

    1. i have buy an original Audi Adapter cabel (this depends on your car, ask an verified audi product seller which cabel suits for your audi, f.e exists Black adapter cabel for your Audi Multi Media interface with yellow, green or white rings. I will post some cabel to see them)

    2. i have buy  an 1meter cabel that will extends the original audi Adapter cabel (i will also post this cabel). this cabel must be a good one to can charge and also to can here music with this). with this cabel the iphone get less electricity and the Connection will remain. 3. You shoud have at least one song on the iPhone App 'iTunes Match'. if  you  dont have it you will be not able to open other Apps (f.e Radio, Spotify etc.) and hear your music! If you dont have buy a song from iTunes, dont worry.. Open your iTunes on your Computer connect your iPhone and drag and drop a Song (mp3) from your pc to your iTunes and them synchronise your iPhone with this song. So you shoud have now a song in your iPhone iTunes Match..

    4. Thats helps for me and now i can here my music.. Sorry for my bad english
