Q: gps not working properly after iOS 9.3 update

Hi all.

After updating to iOS 9.3 my GPS cannot find my exact location. It keeps telling me I am in a big area, (Triangulating) seems like it does not activate the GPS.

Sometimes very little it works and give me the correct position, but 97% of the time its not working. Anyone else with the same problem?

Besides that: A hot phone & bad WIFI

    Hi All,

    Just an update.

I've found the iPhone software for 9.2.1 (iPhone7,2_9.2.1_13D15_Restore.ipsw). I placed my phone into recovery mode and tried installing 9.2.1. I received this error, "This device isn't eligible for the requested build." iTunes is also not letting me restore anything unless it's connected to the internet. I'm going to do some more digging and see how I can downgrade.

For those who need 9.2.1 here's the download link.

    Hi All,

Looks like apple no longer allows downgrades from 9.3.1 to 9.2.1 now that IOS9 is no longer in beta. I'm trying to restore my phone to 9.3 now. I've read up that this can still be done as a downgrade. If you need the download links for 9.3 i'll include them below.

    iPhone 6 users: iPhone 6 (IPSW 9.3)

iPhone 6s users: iPhone 6 Plus (IPSW 9.3)

    I'll keep you posted...

Ok so iTunes isn't allowing me to downgrade to 9.3 either. I've exhausted all my current options. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I'm in the same boat as everyone else - bad GPS now with the recent upgrade. Didn't realize how much I used GPS until I didn't have it.

Another user posted that they drained their battery dead, and then recharged and they were able to get better reception.  I tried that this morning, and so far I am getting good GPS reception.  I am holding my breathe though because I've received good reception, to later see the problem reappear.  Try turning on your GPS, BlueTooth, etc., and play music on mute and drain your battery down dead, and then charge it back, and let us know if it works for you.

Try draining your battery until it is dead, and then charge.  Another user reported that this worked for them, and so far it has been working for me today.

I also download an app called "Gpsinfo" that meassures GPS reception, and so far I am getting reception within "65 meters" which is sufficient for navigation.  I am getting this reception inside my house, and before the drain and recharge I was getting about "1440 meters"

i have tried everything suggested on this thread, no luck GPS just won't work. iOS 9.3.1 did not help either.

While driving I exited out of the app and restarted WAZE and it seemed to work temporarily. I haven't tried the drained battery option. Was that a permeant fix for the people that got it successfully?

None of the solutions worked for me regarding the GPS.

I visited the local Apple Store and genius bar and manage to replace my iPhone 6 (64gb) for a new one.

Luckily i can use my navigation now again....

So i'm still not sure if its a software or hardware issue, or some weird combination of both.

I tried draining my battery, but that did not have any effect.

Draining the battery probably has the same effect as turning your phone off and back on.

The battery never goes completely empty, when you reach 0%, the phone stops working, but it still has a little bit of power to show a "connect to power source" screen.

    I hope I will get a replacement.

    Hi there!

it seems the last beta iOS software, the 9.3.2 beta 4 fix the GPS issue.

you just have to enroll the free tester membership to get it installed in your devide.

I Have been runnig for the last two days with this new release and the iPhone is tracking my route with no issues

HHaving pretty much the same problem as everyone else here. Took it to the Genius Bar. No luck. I explained to the "tech support" employee what Ive done (hard reset, turned location services off and on, and reset network settings). After I explained that i was having the same problem with multiple apps to include google maps and apple's maps and waze, she still insisted that I delete and reinstall google maps. I did. Same results. Asked if she had anyone come in before w this problem, she said no. we hooked up to the apple store wifi to run a diagnostic. found nothing wrong. Tried maps again while connected to their wifi. And as expected, it showed my location accurately. She seemed to think that fixed the problem even after I explained to her that of course it will show an accurate location since it was using the wifi to find me. she didn't understand and took that as the LTE as being the problem since the location services found me accurately while connected to the wifi...

then she blamed it on my lack of memory storage on my phone. Even after I deleted a bunch of apps and photos clearing about 1G of memory w the same results.

also, she noted that I kept getting kicked off their wifi as the "LTE" symbol kept popping up intermittently while being connected to their wifi. "Oh but that's not what you came here for, but that is odd."

i then explained to her that Ive heard a lot of people were having the same problem  with iOS 9.3.1 and when I suggested that it may bet he iOS she said "no ios 9.3.0 had that problem and that's why they came out w ios 9.3.1." So that tells me she has heard of this problem. Contrary to what she said earlier. she kept going back to trying to blame ATT and the LTE. I gave up trying to get her to understand. Asked her if she's heard if 9.3.2 was coming out soon but she said they haven't announced that yet. Great. Yet I'm hearing that there's a beta version out at the moment.

Long  short I was sent on my way w a new SIM card that I had to activate and install myself and promised that it would most likely fix my problem. I activated and installed it. Nope. Same problem. Seriously Apple, these "techs" are suppose to be knowledgeable  in their trade. Only thing that was achieved today was my loss in confidence in apple support.
