Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand you're not able to use the function keys for iTunes on your Mac. Please make sure the option is not checked for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" as is shown in the link below.
How to change the behavior of function keys on your Mac

Thank-you for your suggestion however the box was already un-checked. I probably should have added that only the F7-9 keys are broken and the others all work fine. I've also found that after installing Spotify they work on Spotify and just not iTunes which is where I would like them to work. Any other suggestions?

I've had these issues with my MBA after potentially large updates to OS X. Usually a reboot works for me but I've also had to perform an SMC/PRAM reset to get them functioning again.. Hope it helps!

Thanks for your idea! I reset the SMC/PRAM but I still have the same problem.. maybe it is an iTunes issue?
