Q: Can I stop apple from converting videos to m4v?

I recently updated my apple software to Yosemite.  Prior to this, I always transferred my gopro clips from my camera to my computer and used gopro software in order to make a compilation video.  However, since updating to Yosemite, I am not able to open my video clips in gopro.  My videos are stored in Photos as mp4s but for some reason I cannot open photos through gopro software.  When I try to move these videos from photos to my desktop, they automatically are changed and saved as m4v files which my gopro software doesn't recognize.  i can manually change the name of these to .mov and then they are recognized, but this takes so long to do for each clip individually.  Is there anyway to prevent this conversion to m4v when transferring files out of the Photos album to any other folder on my computer?  Thanks!

I have the same exact question. Although you did help me by saying you can manually change it to .mov (which will now be my preferred method until something is done about this.)

On another note, does anyones GoPro footage speed up once changed to .mov?

Don't import them into Photos. It will convert the format to a "playable" format. Just import them into a folder where you can use them with your GoPro software or iMovie.
