Q: MacBook will not boot or load into single user
Hi. I'm hoping you can help
My sons MacBook will no longer boot up. This happened a day after he downloaded a large amount of movies from iTunes. Not sure if there is a connection. It shows a grey bar after typing in his password - shuts down after half the bar is filled.
I Tried everything I can find on the forums.
It will not boot into safe mode
it will boot into recovery mode. Disc utility says everything is ok on the hard drive. However, it also says it is 100% full of "other" files.
It will not boot into single user mode - gives me the error:
Builduser error () : error building a user of type 0x20010008
i reset the nvram
filevault is not turned on - at least recovery mode says so
any other ideas?
thx

Do you have another Mac you can use or borrow? You could try booting the Macbook in Target Disk Mode and connect it to another Mac.
The Hard drive should show up on the other Mac and you can try deleting some of the Movies to get about 10GB of free space on the drive. Then try to boot it normally.

If you would have to borrow one, you might try to see if the Macbook will go into Target Disk Mode--I don't see why it shouldn't, though.
