Q: El Capitan Killed My Scanner

i have Canon lide 210 scanner i use Adobe acrobat DC to scan my documents you don't need canon software simple like that.

my canon lide 90 flatbed does not get recognised by El Capitain (new to Macs so can't say for earlier OS versions) and does not appear at all in scanner/printer setup under system preferences.  Canons website states the scanner is not supported for El Capitain though if I download the most recent Mac drivers and MP navigator software the MP Navigator software sees the scanner and sometimes works but more often than not crashes. after finding this thread I have tried Vuescan which  appears to work flawlessly provided you use the 32 bit version - the 64bit one couldn't see the scanner. Has a free trial version which watermarks the output, so you can try before you buy.  top advice as the scanner is absolutely perfect. earlier advice in this thread to buy a new scanner seems particularly stupid and unhelpful. thanks

No.  With PS CS3  I can scan thru Photoshop with Vuescan.

Check it - worked perfectly.

Re: Just upgraded to El Capitan. My MF4350 (USB) now won't print. It keeps pausing itself. I have tried reboot, on/off, re-install drivers, etc. Suggestions?

FWIW - I saw that Canon has had no driver updates since Snow Leopard, and that the current drivers were only validated to Mountain Lion.  But I had used them in Mavericks, so since I had nothing to lose, I installed all the Mountain Lion Canon drivers for the MP610 under El Capitan.  And ... it worked!  While the scanning seemed like it was poorer than I remembered it being, but VueScan looked no better, and I realized I could make the noise go away by simply sliding the gamma adjustment on levels.

What I did was install all the 10.6-10.8 drivers again, then plugged in the MP610, then did Add Printer -> Choose Software, and it now had MP610 in the list, which I picked, and then everything worked fine.  I could print again, and I could scan in Preview.  Only thing I haven't tried yet is TWAIN scanning.

This doesn't normally work now. Import from Scanner... has only worked once for me since the upgrade to El Capitan, and that was after I downloaded many new HP drivers, deleted the printer and added it again.

My solution:

go to Canon's driver webpage, then download and install:

1) LiDE 600F Scanner Driver Version 12.13.3a (OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8)

2) CanoScan Toolbox v. 5.0.1.4 (OS X 10.2/10.3/10.4/10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8)

Those driver and software work in El Capitan too (even if they are intended to be used in Mountain Lion)

Yes, this has generally worked with me as well, although instead of running the Canon software directly in El Capitan, I launch System Preferences -> Printers, select the printer I want to scan from, click on the scan tab, and it runs the special Canon scanning software right in System Preferences.

As for the apparent ugly speckling, I am guessing there must have been a system wide gamma change, because even though the Canon scanning software will display a white scanned page as white, viewing that same file anywhere else results in the same bad speckling that others have blamed on Apple software.  I think that this must be due to a mismatch between color profiles.  I found that I can go in any program (e.g. Preview), and shift the gamma, and the page turns white again and the awful speckles goes away.

Thank GOODNESS the old Canon drivers still work under El Capitan.  Sound like with a trivial amount of work on Canon's part, they could get the color profiles to match as well.

I have a LiDE100 Canon scanner which El Capitan disabled.  Even though the Canon web site has no drivers or downloads for El Capitan, I found that when I installed the latest OS updates, the scanner worked flawlessly with the PDF Scanner app, about $15 at the App Store and much simpler and more functional than the Canon software.

Upgraded to El Capitan and my Cancan LIDE 200 stopped working like many others... I was surprised to find the supported models on www.canonusa.com didn't list the LIDE 200 as supported under El Capitan. the LIDE 210 and 220 are listed. I called Canon support, and the nice representative walked me through how to make it work. First, you need new drivers and SOFTWARE, and the Mavericks 10.10 version is what you need. I had to find the support page, and it recognized that I'm running El Capitan 10.11. The grim warning show that there is no software for this version. Support had me set it to 10.10 instead, and then download a driver. Then I needed to click on the Software "tab" (just to the right of the red-highlighted Driver tab), downloaded the software. Then I installed the driver, and the software. Restarted my system. Found the MP Navigator EV.app.  And it works.
