Q: how do I recycle an iphone 3gs

I have gone to apple.com to see how to recycle my iPhone 3gs. It points me to an apple store. I was in an apple store yesterday and they didn't take my phone. What do I do?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2

Don't forget that the iPhone 3GS is now almost seven years old - extremely old for a cellular telephone.

The online recycling site indicates that to qualify for a possible gift card, a recycled iPhone must be iPhone 4 or later. However, if you click the link to the right of that one (under "iPod or Any Older Devices"), you should be able to recycle your iPhone in an environmentally responsible way.

If you would re-read my post you would see that I went to the recycling site. I went to the apple store and they told me to go to the recycling site. I am getting the big runaround.

Yes you are. Can you call AppleCare where you are at and explain your dilemma? Or call the Apple Store and talk to them again? They should provide a valid answer for you.

I guess I am going to have to. I just wish I could have gotten it taken care of yesterday when I was in the apple store. It is about an hour's drive so there is some planning involved.
