Q: Apple TV 4 Home Sharing Artwork Missing

I've read mixed messages here and there about the solution to this.

Many of my home sharing movies are missing cover art  / artwork when viewed on the Apple TV 4 home screen. The previous generation 3 and 2 shows the artwork no problem. The cover art can be viewed when you browse the movies in the list so it's obviously being read but it's annoying to see many grey blank movies on the home screen.

Meta data has been added using Subler. The artwork has always been taken from the iTunes store in high quality.

Sometime re-adding the artwork fixes the problem, sometimes it doesn't.

Does anyone know something I don't?

Me too!  I have tagged with Meta Movie and get the same mixed artwork results.  Only with the ATV4.

    Hi,

I had a bunch of tv shows and movies tagged with metadata and thumbnails that were working fine on apple tv3.

On apple tv 4 - some showed artwork - some not. Some showed metadata - some not.

I seems for whatever reason apple tv 4 will not display a thumbnail with a size greater than 800x800. Try resizing the thumbnails (on you sharing machines itunes) and the image should come back.

On the meta data side, seems the atv4 shows the long description - not the description as for atv3, and the album, not the show.

    Go figure

Add me to the list.  Exactly the same thing you described and only on the ATV 4.

This has been happening to me, too, with a new Apple TV 4 I've had for a couple weeks, and had no similar issues with the ATV3 a few years before.

With the three movies and one TV series in my library where I've spotted this happening, it's worked for me to --

Go into iTunes on the computer

Hit "Get Info" for the title and select the Artwork tab

Click on the artwork and copy it by hitting command-C

Then delete the artwork by hitting the delete key and press Okay to get out of "get info"

Open "Get Info" again and paste that same artwork back in and press Okay.

With each instance I've done this, the artwork will show up. Can sometimes be extra annoying because iTunes can often take foreevvverrr in "Processing" to add that artwork in, freezing all of iTunes while it's doing so.

But at least this seems to be a simple enough and consistent fix, in my experience, so far…

You are correct and this does work for the majority of cases but I have 1 or 2 that this method fails. Obviously, this is a software glitch since paid iTunes content sometimes fails to work on the new ATV4. Hope apple fixes this in the next version because my second generation Apple TV can do it no problem.

Use PNG-24 format when saving, not JPEG!
