May 1, 2016 10:26 AM in response to Marlys Orluckby Allan Jones,Is this "Mac 13 inch laptop" the PowerBook G3 shown the equipment profile or a different Mac notebook? It's important we know the exact model because the pre-2006 Mac notebooks this forum covers are hugely different internally that the current Intel-opowered Macs (2006 through present).
If it is Mac older that 5-7 years, taking it to an Apple Store won't help becasue they do not service computers they deem "vintage "or "obsolete" and, for me, they have refused to even "look at" a vintage model--depends on the store. Info here:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
I am also concerned about buying a battery off eBay. We have seen a large number of reports here on counterfeit batteries from auction sites sold as genuine Apple parts that are worthless. At best they are used batteries repackaged as "new." At worst they could damage a computer.

May 2, 2016 8:14 AM in response to Marlys Orluckby Allan Jones,Marlys,
We can be of more help if you identify the model and sub-model as I asked in my first response. You can get the model from teh serial number in two ways:
1) Enter the serial number into this Apple support page: https://checkcoverage.apple.com
2) If the computer is too old for the Apple lookup to work, this site works the same but extended support to older Macs:
http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
And again, if this is really a Powerbook and not a MacBook or MacBook Pro, I doubt any Apple Store "genius" will be allowed to look at it, so you proximity to such a store may be a moot point.

May 4, 2016 6:08 PM in response to Allan Jonesby Marlys Orluck,When I put in the serial number I found it was made in early 2008. It is a Macbook instead of a Pro. Sorry about that. It has an intel chip so it should be able to be serviced.
We live in Minot, ND

May 5, 2016 3:57 AM in response to Marlys Orluckby K Shaffer,In case you hadn't found an authorized service provider in your localized area,
there appears to be one listed in Minot ND according to Apple - Find Locations...
Link to Locate map result (shows The Computer Store, & info; see screenshot below)

The actual site map allows zoom and other actions that are frozen within above image.
Hopefully you can have your 13-inch MacBook functionality tested, diagnosed, & restored.
Good luck & happy computing!
