Q: erase device will not erase

followed the steps - appears my old iPad is deactivated on iCloud.  my iPad will not unlock the find iPad . it freezes when password submitted.  is there a way to just erase the pad

    No there is not unfortunately - the activation lock is means to prevent unauthorized erasure but can get in the way of a legitimate one as you are experiencing

    You may need to bring that iPad into an Apple or authorized service center for them to unlock it for you and while you are there you can request them to factory restore it

    You would need to bring your original documents of ownership and proof of identity
