That is, it will tell you where it is, but not how high up it is (as would be the case with an apartment complex). If you believe your iPad was stolen, I would recommend providing the information you do have to local law enforcement.

Find My iPhone only will show you the apartment complex. Once you arrive your best option would be to get in the general area and press the ping device utton a million times and listen hard.
My other suggestion would be contacting law enforcement.
