Q: Your movie will be ready to watch in 9 hours and 43 minutes.

I thought with the advent of the new Apple TV that this issue would be resolved or taken more seriously. Maybe with the rumors they're going to be creating ther own servers for the cloud it will but at the same time every other streaming company seems to be able to operate this basic requirement without issues: I so often can't watch what I have purchased when I want to. Last night for example, I went to watch a tv episode and was met with a wait time of 9 hours and 43 mins. Yes it does improve but only after having started watching something else in Hulu or Netflix or the like and normally when I'm half way through watching. This issue also extends to trailers. Sometimes trailers take as long as the trailer to start playing and yet in YouTube it will start instantly. Why? It's infuriating.

 

It is especially frustrating due to it being content that you own. Is there a fix to this? other than submitting feedback is there a way to get this issue taken as a greater priority? I'm sure it is but come on.

What is your internet connection speed?

How is ATV connected to network?

It is widely reported that iTunes always transmits movies in full 1080p. Other services, particularly Netflix, use lower resolution when they detect a slower data rate. See Get help playing or streaming content on your Apple TV - Apple Support for more info.

    The uplink speed is more important than downlink if the uplink gets saturated.

     

    As far as I know only the thread starter can mark resolved.  The rest of us don't have a this answered my question button.

    What is your Post Code and what Exchange are you connected to? Does this happen for all films rented through iTunes Movies?

    Pardon my ignorance but is uplink the same as upload? You also mentioned a CDN, which I am unfamiliar with. So can you tell me what exactly I should be doing to obtain whichever relevant information so I could ascertain what the problem could be, it would be amazingly appreciated. I have always tutted at Apple about this but if there could actually be a way of problem solving this, I would be so thrilled.

    HI and thanks for commenting brandscill,

     

    I wouldn't be happy with revealing full postcode on here but even I did, I have no idea which my local Exchange is. I have been told by an Engineer it was rather close by. How would I go about finding out?

     

    The issue is sporadic it doesn't happen every single time. If on one particular night the issue is encountered then it will happen with any iTunes content I try to start,

    Hi Antonio,

    Just a thought. You have the ATV DNS set to auto, so it uses the router. The address displayed in network settings will be the same as the router. Could you look at the DNS address the router is using, and make sure it is a UK, or at least European, IP address. As bodosom mentioned, these distributed servers work by tricking the DNS so that the same domain name is routed to different IP based on location. If you happen to be using a US nameserver, you might be getting movies from the wrong server. Look for a "whois" service to see the owner and country of the DNS IP address.
