Q: Placing call from mac launches MS Lync app instead of Face Time

I have set FaceTime as default for all calls under FaceTime preferences and under lync preferences set face time for phone calls but placing a call from my iMac/ Macbook opens MS Lync app. Any suggestions ?

I'll add to @Rajendra's post in that I'm having the same issue. I set the default application in both Lync and/or FaceTime and after restarting either application it will default back to Lync. Therefore when I try to click on phone numbers it will try to use Lync which is not how I want things to work.

All of my apps and OS are up to date as of the writing of this post. Seems like Lync is doing something quite interesting unfortunately.

    Thoughts?

Quick update after doing some more searching. I would suggest trying this to fix your issue as it just fixed mine: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203129

Confirming that this worked for me too.

Make sure Lync and FaceTime are closed

Run the terminal command. per the link above.

When it's done, open FaceTime and make sure facetime is selected for phone calls.  If you want to, enable wifi calling too.

Launch Lync.  You should get a pop-up asking if you want to use Lync for telephone calls.

Check the "don't ask this again" box and click on No.

Voila... this should solve the issue.

@watchdog, one thing I have realised since I last posted that the setting resets after a reboot, therefore you need to run the script each and every time you boot your Mac. Not ideal but I do not often reboot these days.

Therefore this isn't permanently resolved, more of a bandaid solution.

Would be interested to know if you experience the same behaviour.
