Q: Back Up - Sparse Disk Image Bundle on TimeMachine

Hi there,

I am trying to access a Time Macine Back, to restore a potential busted External Hard, and the only thing I can seem to find on the TM is a file for 1.2TB called Sparse Disk Image Bundle.

The size indicates it is what I need, but I cant seem to find anything else that would be the back up.

Can anyone help, what is this file?

Thanks

Richard

    Hi Glenn,

Further to the above, I managed to locate another sparse bundle on my second NAS, but when I try and click on that I get a different message,

    "No mountable File systems"

This is 1.8 TB, so I am thinking this is the back up I am looking for.

Can you help with trying to enter this as a time machine folder?

    Thanks, as ever.

    Rich

You won't be able to access it in the Finder or TM unless you can mount the image first which will show up under Devices in the Finder. Sounds like it's either damaged or again because of the NAS storage you are using may not be compatible with TM.

Is the Image itself 1.8TB? If you can drag or copy it to your boot drive first, then try to open it from there.

Have you tried going to your Applications folder in the hard drive level Applications folder and running the Time Machine application?

    Eric,

If i double click on time machine from Finder Applications, it opens time machine (the screen that has loads of windows open stacked on top of each other)

However, all the NAS drives i have are greyed out and i can only click on the USB hard d rives, which in this case, has given up the ghost.

Is there anything i can do to click on the NAS while in Time Machine?

    Thanks

    Rich

I just tried with my 4 NAS and couldn't access any of them.

As I explained earlier, in order for TM to see the backup, you will have to mount the drive (meaning you will have to mount the disk image representing the drive). My Time Capsule is a NAS device. They show up under shared. When I click on the shared drive in the finder window and open up the drive, the backup should appear. You will select the image of the device you want and double click on it. It should mount under devices in the sidebar as an ejectable drive. Once mounted, you can then either open it in the finder, or access it through TM.

The warning message you showed earlier indicated that the drive was bad. If you can't mount the Image on the drive, it is corrupt. If you have room on your boot drive, I asked you to drag the Image from the NAS to your desktop, then try to mount it. If that doesn't work, then that image is corrupt.
