I understand how frustrating it can be to see continual advertisements on your computer. I have an article for you with some information on stopping this behavior:
Stop pop-up ads in Safari - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
The behavior you describe may be best attributed to adware, which is addressed in this section of the article previously mentioned:
If you might have adware installed on your Mac
If pop-ups persist on your Mac, you might have inadvertently downloaded and installed adware (advertising-supported software). Some software that you download from certain third-party download sites might include both the software that you want and the adware.
If you think that you might have adware on your Mac, update to the most recent version of OS X El Capitan. If your Mac already has the most recent version of El Capitan, restart it. El Capitan removes adware only at login. If you still see advertising on your Mac, contact Apple.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

May 5, 2016 7:52 AM in response to Snyder22by Christian Stueben,Beside the hints concerning malware / adware, many browsers can be setup to show one or more "homepages". Have a look in your browser settings and edit / delete the homepage.

May 5, 2016 8:19 AM in response to Snyder22by Kurt Lang,★HelpfulIf you do have adware installed (and it certainly sounds like you do), upgrading to a newer OS won't change a thing since the adware will still be there.
The simplest method of removing all known adware is to use the free automated tool, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. If you would prefer to manually remove the adware on your system, you can find such instructions on The Safe Mac's adware removal page.
