Q: Retailers not training cashiers on how to use apple pay

First, I love apple pay.  Transactions are quick and seamless.  I've had zero issues using apple pay on apple watch or iphone 6s plus on any credit card machine with NFC capabilities.

However, I've noticed a disturbing trend that I hope will reach someone's ears at apple.  The cashiers are not being trained as to what apple pay is or how the transactions are supposed to work.  In at least 95% of my transactions I have to explain to the cashier what I'm doing with my watch or phone and what they need to do.  This happens at nearly every McDonalds, Tim Hortons, CVS Pharmacy, subway and even Starbucks that I've visited.  Every conversations goes the same.  I ask if that is an apple pay logo on the machine.  They look at the machine as if they never noticed the logo and I get a puzzled look.  I then instruct them to assume I have a credit card ready to swipe.  They reluctantly follow and are completely AMAZED when I use my phone or watch.

My suggestion is simple...require that retailers establish a simple training protocol for their cashiers.  I truly believe this will get consumers attention if this option is made to them when they pay.  Apple pay is great, some folks just need a little more training in the field.

Best Regards,
