Q: Disk repair doesn't detect error

I have a 13" retina MacBook Pro, and I'm running El Capitan (10.11.4).

I've been having an issue where my mac freezes for no reason. I ran First Aid on the Disk Utility, but saw no problems. Then I ran OnyX. When it verifies the volume, it comes back with the following error:

Error: -69845: File system verify or repair failed

Underlying error: 8: POSIX reports: Exec format error

The disk needs to be repaired.

So then I restart in recovery mode and run Disk Utility. But, again, it says there's no problem.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how to repair this? I would really rather not have to try a nuke & pave!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Disk Utility and Onyx check for different things from each other.

If you are not experiencing day-to-day tangible issues, I think the best action you can take is to stop running Onyx, which is not likely telling you anything worthwhile.

    Thanks, Grant!

I was having day-to-day issues before I installed Onyx --- freezing and crashing. Once I installed Onyx, it said I should restart in recovery mode and run Disk Utility to repair the error I mention above. But Disk Utility said there was no problem.

If you are having kernel panics, the logs are stored in this Directory:

    /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

    you can use:

Finder >  Go Menu >  go to Folder

to get right to that directory. get the latest one and post it in its entirety.

Please do not post more than about 50 lines of Application crashes from nearby directories -- they contain information only useful to the developer.
