Q: my macbook does not connect to the airport extreme

My Macbook connects to the internet directly, but does not 'see' my airport extreme.

Internet works, and after restarting the airport extreme is briefly visible in the Airport Utility (goed 'green' for a few seconds) , before the Airport Utility offers to 'forget' the base station because it cannot be found.

All hardware is updated to the latest versions.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), iOS 9.2

At this point I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on the you AirPort Extreme base station. After the reset, the Extreme will be in its "out-of-the-box" configuration and will broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. You can then use the AirPort Utility to configure it for your networking requirements.

If this still fails to resolve the problem, you may have a defective unit. If the product is less than 1 year old, Apple will replace the device for you.....or.....if you have AppleCare in effect on a qualified product, the AirPort Extreme will be covered for up to 3 years from its purchase date.
