Q: Notes from iCloud not synching to my MAC

Hello. This is my first post. I am not a sophisticated MAC user, but I have tried finding a solution to my problem in the help forums with no success. My MAC runs on OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5 and my notes from iCloud will not download. I tried deleting my account in notes and reinstalling iCloud, clicking notes off and then back on, checking the settings on my iphone 6 to make sure it was set to iCloud...going into my iCloud account to make sure the notes were there...My computer, it seems, only recognizes old notes (ancient) and nothing else. It won't download any notes from iCloud. Any bright ideas out there? Please?

    Frances,

Your notes are not syncing because you are using Yosemite, and I'm guessing that you are using iOS 9 on your iPhone.

    iCloud: Notes overview states:

    "Notes on your devices

When you make changes using Notes on iCloud.com, they appear automatically in Notes on your iOS devices and Mac computers that are signed in to the same iCloud account, and vice versa. You can also view your up-to-date iCloud notes in Microsoft Outlook on your Windows computer set up for iCloud.

However, if you upgrade your iCloud account in the Notes app on a device with iOS 9 or later or OS X v10.11 or later:

    • Your notes on those devices and on iCloud.com aren’t kept up to date with notes on any of your devices with iOS 8.4.1 or earlier, OS X v10.10.5 or earlier, or Windows.
    • Your notes are no longer stored in your @icloud email account."

Here is an additional article which explains how to upgrade Notes on all devices: Upgrade your notes with iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

In your case you would have to upgrade to El Capitan for notes to regain the option to sync your Mac with your Mobile Devices.

Hi Ferd. Can i bug you again? You seem very well versed in the mac world...

I have two jpg files that I cannot add text to when open in preview. I click on the toolbox and then on the text tool. It offers me the options to change font, size etc but does not allow me to actually start typing anything onto the image. It does not remain active or "blue". It just goes gray again. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to modify a jpg and add text to it on a mac using the bundled products? If not, any ideas?

    Frances,

Adding text the way you describe it is not always obvious when the text box is active. Try adding the Text field by using the Preview Menu Bar as follows:
