Q: Phone calls on iPad?

i didn't know if I should post here, in the iPhone forum, or iOS.  I have a 6+ and an Air2 both running the latest iOS.  I can have my phone and iPad sitting next to each other, both connected to my home WiFi (an Apple Time Capsule) when the phone rings. Sometimes the iPad will respond and pick up the call.  But just as often it won't.  And yesterday I was miles from home when I got a call.  I was on the Verizon cell network, NOT my home network.  Amazingly when I got home the iPad listed a missed call from that number.  How did that happen?  The iPad has no phone capability.

The bottom line is this Continuity link seems like a lot of garbage.  Any thoughts as to how to make it actually work as advertised?  And how did the iPad respond when it and the phone were not on the same network?

Please see this article. It states "Your carrier might support Wi-Fi calling on other devices. If so, you can set up your Mac and other iOS devices to make and receive calls even when your iPhone isn't on or nearby."

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support

With Continuity enabled, if you have the same Apple ID on your iPad and iPhone, calls will show up on your iPad once the iPhone starts ringing.

I don't like this feature myself and to set it off on your phone go to Settings > FaceTime > iPhone Cellular Calls to OFF. Or on your iPad go to Settings > FaceTime > iPhone Cellular Calls to OFF.
