Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

that is a over heating mostly constant usage of device or using any case.Simple method is to reboot your device by holding home button and power button.

It's happened the same to my 6s, home button overheating and can't turn on. Last night my battery was only 13% ,then I charged my ph the whole night with airplane mode. I started know the error during morning & did know nth to do.To fix it, my boyfriend gave me this link and I found the way that former ones said.So I tried pressing home key & power button at the same time. Within 6 seconds it turns on & I get it back. Thz for ur suggestions & comments with my heart. Frankly, I got very frustrated by this system error of 6s.

You most likely have a hardware issue. Arrange to get your phone serviced.

Same problem and same fix today.  I am off to the Apple Store tomorrow.   Will they replace the phone?   Is this a hardware or  software problem?   It could be  either but given the number of OS upgrades, I suspect hardware.

Only Apple can tell you what they will do. When they examine the phone, they will give you your options.

I am back from the Apple Store.   I went there after phone Iphone 6S locked up with a black screen and the home button go too hot to touch .   The phone was reset and seems to work OK now.  I had called Apple and was told I could be helped at the local Apple store.  First, although the Apple phone technician said I had an appointment, I did not have an appointment.  It appears that no one can get an appointment (even Apple itself) at any Apple store within 50 miles of Sarasota, FL.   So, I elect to wait for about 1 hour as a walk in.  The Apple greeter seem to think this was a good deal for me as the normal wait is much longer.  Judge for yourself.   Once the technician had my phone she ran some diagnostics over the WiFi.   I asked why I had to drive 10 miles and wait an hour for something that could be done remotely but did not get an answer.   The diagnostics indicated that my phone had not experienced a "dangerous temperature".   Tell that to my sore thumb.  I am sure that the CPU has at least one temperature sensor within to prevent over heading.  If the temperature gets too hot it will automatically lower the clock rate (performance).  This is standard practice for CMOS microprocessors.  However, I have been unable to find if there are any other temperature sensors on the phone.  Clearly there is none on the home button which was burning hot.   In the end the technician described what happened as an "isolated incident" and logged it as such.   She also said that it was not a "software issue" and that if it happened again I may qualify for a replacement.   My option is this is a design flaw in at least four ways.  First, the home button can get very very hot.  Second, there is no sensor in the phone that detects this overheated condition. Third, the problem cannot be fixed with a software or firmware update.   Fourth, Apple has no clue what causes the problem.   Of course Apple could prove me wrong by acknowledging the problem and issuing a fix but that would be a good thing.   I hope they do.   I also hope that the hire more help so it is possible to get an appointment at the store. Customer service is important and it was a struggle to get any.

I probably plugged it in wrong, so many different possibilities. Or I plugged it in at the wrong battery level, or maybe after I set the alarm as every night to the same time. So many things someone can do wrong.

17 pages of isolated incident. I more comment of thousands towards that appointment mayhem at the stores. I miss Steve Jobs.

I had the same problem today.  I had my phone plugged into one of these power cases (JLW-6GB).  This had worked fine for several days, but today, the screen went black and the home button was totally hot.  I'm traveling but fortunately I had WIFI at the airport and was able to get online with my MacBook where I found this post.  It saved me lots of additional frustration.  I did the home button-power button reset - it took about 15 second.  In the 10 minutes that this issue had been going on, the battery went from 100% to 49%.

    Hope this won't happen again...

I got the exact same problem. My 6s plus 64G got black screen and found my home button burning hot.

Just pressed home button + power button to reset. Luckily, I can bring my phone on.

No idea what the problem is. Should I send my phone to apple to check? T

Over 17 pages reports this problem but Apple doesn't care about it?

    No reply from Apple ?

I just had the same thing happen to me.  I used it with the battery at 28% and looked up the weather report.  Then I set it down to play with the kids, and came back 15 minutes later and the screen wouldn't turn on.  I thought maybe the battery drained due to some unkown background app so I plugged it in to an apple charger.  I didn't notice any heat at that point.  An hour later I unplugged it and tried to turn it on.  As others have said, it wouldn't turn on and the home button was SUPER hot.  I've had the phone run hot when playing a game for a long period of time, but this was different.  I did a google search which led me to this thread.  I was able to restart it by using the home and power button for 10 second trick, but I'm very concerned about the heat.  FWIW the battery life was at 6% when restarted.  What if my 1 1/2 year old grabbed my phone to try and watch a Sesame St. video when it is this hot? This will be the last Iphone I ever buy considering their lack of response to the last 18 pages of people with this problem.

!8 pages of people posting the same problem.... out of last year's sales of 232 million iPhones. I'm afraid you are one of the unlucky infinitesimal number of people who have suffered a problem. Take it to Apple.

Why are you leaving a $600 piece of electronic where a small child can get it?
