Q: Dead iPhone 6 and desperate

It is a new iPhone 6 with no scratches, and has had a case and screen protecter on it. I woke up to my phone acting glitchy two days ago.  Soon it wouldn't allow me to hear phone calls but I could hear everything else. My phone soon died so I plugged it into the charger. It worked and turned on but eventually died and the only thing on the screen was the charging logo. I let it charge for about 45 and nothing changed. The screen turned black and nothing would turn on. I tried resetting it multiple times. Even though my phone has never first handily been exposed to water, I got nervous because there was just a little sticky material in my case when I took it off. So without any hesitation I put the phone in rice just to make sure. I left it in over night and when i went to plug it back in the charging signal came on but after moments turned off again. I checked the LDI in the sim card slot and could not see any indication of red. Is there any hope that I am freaking myself out that water damage is the only answer to my phone issues?
