Q: Anyone know why CBS.com is asking me to install Adobe Flash Player when I have a record in finder of that being installed on March 31, 2016?

I have watched videos of my favorite shows at CBS.com in the past without popups telling me to install Adobe Flash Player. However, today the popup is telling me to install Adobe Flash Player. I have a record in Finder of that Flash Player being installed on this iMac 21.5 computer using Safari 9.1 on March 31, 2016.  Why is it blocking me from viewing their shows now? Any ideas?

    1. System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All

Press the "Delete All" button under “Browsing Data and Settings”.

        Install Adobe Flash Player.

        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

       Download it first.

       The next step is important.

Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.

Follow the prompts and install it.

       Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.

    2. Allow  Plug-ins

        Safari > Preferences > Security

        Internet Plug-ins >  "Allow  plug-ins"

        Enable it.

    3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy  > Cookies and website data:

Press the “ Remove All Website Data” button.

        Press the “Details” button.

        Remove YouTube related cookies.

ok dominic23, I tried your suggestion, but you have left out a step, and it would be good to know what to select on the page that pops up when I select 'delete all' on the browsing data and settings? Also that popup suggests I exit out of Safari before selecting anything on that popup. Suggestions please?

FWIW, there was a security update to Adobe Flash Player in April. That could be the cause.

    The current versions are…

    NPAPI Plug-in version 21.0.0.226

    PPAPI Plug-in version 21.0.0.213

Thanks - good to know.  I am very suspicious of anything with Adobe's name on it since they were a part of the hack that occurred on my Dell computer.

You're welcome. It's good to be cautious. Better to ask than not ask and regret it later.

Please read Beware bogus Adobe Flash "installers".

So-called "news" sites are second only to "adult entertainment" websites for hosting and distributing malware and scams of various descriptions. Your best defense against phony "Adobe Flash Player" installers is to not use Flash at all, but if you find that you cannot live without it then obtain it directly from Adobe and never by following a popup alert.

Most websites no longer require Flash. If you encounter one that does, you can accelerate Flash Player's well-deserved demise by not patronizing those sites.

First of all, CBS.com is not a "So-called news" site. There are hundreds if not thousands of legitimate or tens of thousands, etc. news sites. It's good to be cautious but spreading FUD does not seem to be helpful.

That website exists primarily for entertainment purposes, as are most other so-called "news" sites. Please refer to its Terms of Use for additional details.

John, if you read the OP you would see she went there to watch her "favorite shows at CBS.com" The only person in this thread to mention news sites was you.

    I'm familiar with the TOU.

Seeing the vast majority of CBS programming is entertainment, I'm unclear as to how they specialize in News.

The 'vast majority" is junk, below that there is what passes for news.
