Q: How to use Time Capsule for just backups and connection to Airport Expresses - not internet?

Hi -

Here is what I currently have:

1 gb fiber to the house; structured wiring on Cat5e to modem & router / wifi (not using Apple).

Some of my computers are connected to the router via ethernet cables not wifi, because I get 900 mbps to the computer (upload and download) that way, including my iMac. (Therefore, my iMac ethernet port is in use.)

I also have a Time Capsule and a couple of Airport Expresses, none of which are in use anymore. I would like to put them to use, but NOT for internet connection.

I would like to use the Time Capsule to backup my iMac. And I'd like to use the Airport Express to play music from my iMac to the rooms where they are plugged in, where I will have speakers. As I used to do in years past.

But I can't figure out how to do this.

What are my steps toward the backup / music setup, given that I do not want to change my internet connectivity already set up?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

FWIW, in my network, I have a Time Capsule (TC), connected back to my main router by Ethernet that I am using for Time Machine backups. (Note: That Apple recommends that the TC uses a wireless connection for Time Machine, but I have not found this to be the case.)

    The key setup items are:

    • The TC must be reconfigured as a bridge.
    • The TC's wireless radios must be disabled.
    • (Optional, but recommended) Assign a static local IP address to the TC.

For the AirPort Express base stations, you can reconfigure them as wireless clients for the purpose of both streaming and sharing an attached USB printer.
