Q: I cannot rename PDFs in iBooks after upgrading to iOS 9.3.

I am using iPhone 6Plus on iOS 9.3.1.

After the storage location is changed to iCloud I cannot rename the file name of each PDF file in iBooks, which I could, before iOS 9.3.

Even though the rename looks accepted, the next time the contents are refreshed, such as by re-launching the application, the change was lost and the file name stays unchanged now.

Anyone with workarounds to this annoying bug?

I Am basically in favor of the storage location change.

However, this bug, making it unable to rename files in iBooks, is not okay and I cannot simply accept.

The other bug is when converting a document into a PDF in iBooks you have to do the process twice.  This only happens in iOS 9.3.1.  Unlike in the prior version you only need to do the conversion once.

I Just spent 2 hours at the Apple Store because of this issue...no resolution.  The tech refreshed my iPad, and not only did it not correct the problem, I also lost some of my documents despite having backed up immediately prior.  I have used ibooks for my bills, itineraries, work documents exclusively.  This renaming problem appeared after the last update...I see no responses to this, and I cannot get through to Apple to report.  I am ready to change devices.

DItto. I get the distinct feeling the sync process is ripping the title name from some kind of meta data attached to the original document and that this is some sort of privilege setting within iTunes' server maybe (because these PDF documents are sure as **** not being stored in iCloud Drive or iCloud in the traditional sense)... Like commercially purchased iBooks I am beginning to think they are being applied some kind of write protection. I even tried the following - renamed a random pdf file I already had stored in a document folder on my Mac which had never been previously stored in iBooks app - then I dragged and dropped it into the iBooks app. When it had synced I opened iBooks on my iPad and low and behold the document name had NOT been preserved but it had been MODIFIED back to some random name that the app had seemingly harvested from the document itself! ***? This level of interferemce with my personal files is a disgrace.

Why can't Apple just regularly update iOS to address these customer comments/complaints without having to wait for the next major iOS update e.g. iOS 9.3.2? Third party apps e.g Google, YouTube, Pandora, etc.  regularly update their apps in my iPhone and it only takes seconds to complete.  I've been in contact with an Apple Support agent since March 27, 2016.  Unfortunately the agent said he's  is still waiting for their Apple Engineers to address this bug(s).  Is Apple reaching its saturation point?

Anyone have any theories exactly WHERE these PDF files are being stored now? Login to iCloud.com and you will not see them. They are not on iCloud Drive either. Given that iBooks is now a "mirror" regards our PDF documents I find it slightly alarming that their actual storage area is not accessible to me. The confusing reality is that we have three flavours of Apple's Cloud service running simultaneously. iCloud Drive is clearly a subset of iCloud - you can see the iCloud Drive folder among the other "normal" iCloud applications when viewing your iCloud dashboard at iCloud.com. As for our PDFs - I can only assume the "Cloud" sync process is running under the iTunes umbrella somehow and on separate servers - the same area your iBook purchases are stored.

Though the PDF files are not visible in iCloud Drive I'm certain that they are in iCloud.  The only problem is the owner of those files cannot even download them into his/her device.  Try turning off ibooks in the iCloud Drive and all PDF files will disappear.  Turn it back on and the files will show up.  It I think it's a pretty easy fix on the part of Apple but they are just reluctant to do it.  They can mirror the iNotes or the Photos the way they've been set up.  I'm still hoping that a fix to this bug is upcoming hopefully sooner rather than later.

Is there any more news on this problem? iOS 9.3.2 has not solved it . Before reading these posts I have spoken to Apple Support (twice) and instore adviser in the last week and no one was aware of it or suggested it was linked to a bug in 9.3. I thought it might have been caused by syncing IBooks on IPad to our new IMac and have unsynced ( and turned off IBooks in ICloud Drive on IMac) but to no avail - any changes to titles of new PDFs on my IPad ( not pre-bug ones they are ok) revert to original after a while ( not a set time which suggests it is triggered by some activity elsewher). How can I/we get Apple to address this issue - going through Apple Support seems to be a waste of time. I tried Bugreporter but it would not accept my attempt to login. There must a huge number of users ( students and researchers in particular) affected by this issue.

I Have this issue too. It's outrageously bad. I actually couldn't believe it was happening at first. What a crap app iBooks is. It is so basic as to be an embarrassment. I now email the files to myself and then save them to my Gdrive where I can rename etc to my hearts content. Apple has spent all its time making bubbles wobble in iMessage but cannot make iBooks rename a PDF properly. Very embarrassing! But seriously, it's also a bit worrying. I rely on iCloud backing up my stuff and making the versions I want available everywhere. What if other things are getting altered or not changed when I want them to without me knowing about it.

It is now months after the problem was reported (and probably around 3 iOS updates later) and STILL Apple have done NOTHING to fix this significant problem with iBooks - a problem which has turned my previously organised PDF files into a complete bloody mess. Too busy trying to come up with new hardware designs I have no doubt. Unfortunately the shiny new devices are still going to suffer the same shoddy software. My gut feeling is I need to drop Apple from my life... it is the software that maketh the device - not how shiny the device might be. I get the distinct feeling that Apple's tiny proportion of in-house code writers also double-up as office cleaners at Cupertino.

I have recently contacted to an online support agent about this issue. You know what.... ibooks is not a pdf reader application so you can not rename a pdf file on ibooks, he said. Then he said that I needed to use an other application to manage pdf files on iphone. I have downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader app to my iphone but I've got lots of pdf files in my ibooks. So, how do I transfer those pdf files from ibooks to Adobe??? I cant even see the files on icloud drive. I am so frustrated....
