Q: Using Verizon Wi-Fi Calling causes network to drop

A couple of weeks ago, Verizon finally enabled Wi-Fi Calling, and it can be turned on through the Phone settings on my iPhone 6. I then noticed that my entire Wi-Fi network began dropping out periodically, and then coming back 2-3 minutes later (I have a Netgear AC1750 Wireless Cable Router). It did this, probably 20 times per day over the last 4 days I had Wi-Fi Calling enabled.

I've disabled Wi-Fi Calling on my iPhone, and now all seems to be well again. I realize that this is a new technology for Verizon, but other carriers have had it for a while. Has anyone else come across anything like this, and is there a way to solve this so that I can use Wi-Fi Calling?

Thanks!

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

I have had T Mo wifi calling for over a year - never run into anything like that

Your other option is to check the Verizon forums where this issue may be more animatedly discussed

Thanks, and yes, I have posted in the Verizon forums as well.

Try shutting off iCloud drive and see if this continues

You never mentioned any functional loss occurring in your iPhone.  You make it sound like a nuisance more than a show-stopping issue.  So I'm guessing that when your Netgear Wi-Fi drops out for a few minutes, you do not lose connectivity to Wi-Fi.  If that's the case, this article explains:

There would really be no problem if in fact you're simply switching to Verizon's Wi-Fi for a few minutes.

I should have been more clear - all of my devices (Macs, iPads, Apple TVs, iPhones) still have a router signal, but there is no Internet access for 2-3 minutes, and then it returns.

No loss of functionality on the iPhone, just no Internet connectivity throughout my house. More than a nuisance, as it happens so often.

    Thanks.

Well, if you're up for an experiment, I don't know if this will help (it may), but it shouldn't hurt:

You might consider changing Settings > Cellular > [scroll down to] Wi-Fi Assist = "Off"

What this will do is stop evaluating the strength of your Netgear Wi-Fi signal on your iPhone (to compare against Verizon's cellular data) and attempt to stay connected to Netgear regardless of how strong or weak the signal is.
