Q: Spotlight fails to find files--again!
I have always had problems with Spotlight, and I keep thinking the next major release of OS X will solve these problems. It never does.
I checked System Preferences > Spotlight, and under Search Results, I made sure that Documents, Folders and Applications are checked (enabled).
In a folder full of files, in the search box at the top of the window, I tried typing the name of a file that I know is in there: GarageSale. I made sure that the current folder is selected in the Search area at the top of the window.
When I type "G" it finds several files, when I type "Ga" it finds one file and when I type "Gar" it finds nothing. This happens whether I choose Filename or Everything from the little popup next to the search field.
I cleared out that search and then SELECTED AND COPIED THE FILENAME of one of the files that I could see in that window and then PASTED it into the search box (to make sure it was typed correctly). Spotlight still found nothing!
This is a fairly simple operation and I don't know how I could be doing anything wrong, but if I am, please let me know.
