Q: Why is downloading El Capitain so very very slow

After a long time I decided to download El Capitan.

So I started to download in the App Store. I have been downloading now for 3 hours and I have about 20 hour to go.

Is this normal ??

btw I looked in the netwerk as a question here before and the settings are good. Other downloading is fast.

Make sure your Mac meets the requirements to upgrade to El Capitan here >  Upgrade to OS X El Capitan

If it meets the requirements, the slow download time is most likely your internet connection speeds.

Then click where you see;  Begin Test

If the download speed is less than 10Mbps, you will have to upgrade your internet service to a faster connection for El Capitan.

Downloading and installing El Capitan should not take longer than 45 minutes to an hour on a broadband connection.

Keep in mind, with El Capitan installed, if you need to repair the startup disk or restore OS X, that requires using OS X Recovery and that requires a high speed broadband connection as well.

I have a Retina MacBook Pro late 2013, so that not the problem.

Down and upload are 48.55 and 49.37 (Fiberglas) so that not the problem either.

It must be I think Apple server?

This worked for me as well!  First three attempts it said it would take take two days.  After pausing and resuming the fourth time it dropped to 18 minutes.  Unbelievable!  I have an 80mbps fiber internet connection.

I realize I'm replying to an old thread and have nothing new to offer, but I thought I'd chime in quick just so others know that this isn't an isolated issue. I don't have the world's speediest Internet connection by any means and after looking at the size of the OS X file I was prepared to wait about three or four hours for the download (as I work with video a lot I'm very familiar with moving large files). I'm now on day three, and it's only about two-thirds the way done... *sigh*

At this point I'm loathe to cancel and restart the upload - I'd hate to waste three days of toe-tapping if the cure doesn't work. (Thankfully the download is for my spare machine and isn't something that's holding up my workflow.)
